During this period, whether it is the comments at the end of our article or the discussion on Twitter, the concerns about the future of Ethereum are a topic of great concern to many holders.
As for whether the future of Ethereum is feasible, my criteria for judging are still the same:
- Whether it is pursuing decentralization to the utmost in operation (note that it is "operation" rather than "development and leadership")
- Whether there is a strong and trustworthy team
- Whether there is a strong community and ecology
If these criteria are used to evaluate the current Ethereum, has it been weakened?
There is a very good article on Twitter (@sdcrypto123), and the main points expressed basically represent my views. In addition, this article also mentions some problems that I have never noticed before.
The link to this article is at the end of the article.
Today, I will share with you some of the views and details in this article.
"I still don't think the Ethereum community has done anything absolutely wrong. Ethereum has put a lot of development energy/community support on decentralization, anti-censorship, and privacy. In the short term, everyone thinks it is unimportant, but once other chains have security problems or a group is controlled by a consortium and is not neutral enough, everyone will look back and feel the importance of decentralization and anti-censorship."
This view is the view that I agree with 100% and without doubt in the entire article, and it is a view that I have always believed in for so many years.
If we believe that the predecessors of the crypto ecosystem have devoted countless efforts and even lives to allow future generations and us to have such a world, in which the evil, censorship and interference of centralized institutions are eliminated as much as possible, then after Satoshi Nakamoto created Bitcoin, only Ethereum has been insisting on moving in this direction.
In the latest Ethereum plan, Vitalik proposed to lower the threshold for verification nodes and further decentralize verification------Ethereum never compromises on decentralization, which is my greatest comfort and the core concern.
Decentralization and anti-censorship cannot be shaken in the main chain (L1). Only in this way can the platform be sufficiently neutral and neutral. Whether it is a good person or a bad person, it can be used equally and without discrimination.
Second-layer expansion (L2), third-layer expansion (L3) and even multi-layer expansion do not need to be like this. They can be centralized and even have censorship functions (of course, it would be better if they can also be decentralized). The reason why they can do this is because the main chain they rely on is sufficiently decentralized.
"Trust is not trust that you will not make mistakes and fall behind; trust is trust that it has a strong ability to correct mistakes after falling behind and making mistakes, and trust that it has a very strong core value that can lead it to continue to move forward patiently, long-term and tenaciously. Values are very empty, but without values, it is easy to give up principles and continue to develop at critical moments. Making money can hardly become the core element of a project's continuous progress and progress, because there will always be better things to make money."
This view summarizes values very well.
Every person, every project, and every company will encounter a dark moment in the process of development. At that moment, there is no experience to learn from, no external force to seek help, and no resources to use. At that time, the choice of which path and which direction to choose depends on values.
Values can give people a sixth sense in the darkest moment, allowing us to penetrate the fog, penetrate the darkness, see the light, and allow us to withstand pressure, reject temptation, and move in the right direction.
Vitalik has never wavered in his values. In the past development, no matter what interference, doubts, or temptations there were from the outside world, he always insisted on decentralization and anti-censorship. Because of this, I believe in him and the future of Ethereum.
I hope that Vitalik and even the future Ethereum team will continue to adhere to this value and maintain this original intention in the future.
"Uniswap and Jupiter are completely opposite. When animal coins were popular in 2021, they hid/blocked various Memecoins in the token search list, while Jupiter actively guided them and even made the first multi-person Memecoin in the Solana ecosystem, called Wen."
"You can also see the difference in the wallet. Phantom actively adds the popular Memecoins every day to the list or arranges them on the swap side, while Little Fox hides them and needs to add them by yourself. At the same time, there is no obvious reminder of the most popular tokens on the current network anywhere."
I was quite surprised to see this detail.
Before that, I didn't know that Uniswap and Little Fox deliberately hid and suppressed meme coins in their apps.
Although I am not so obsessed with meme coins, I don't object to it. I have participated in many meme coins myself because I can feel the joy and pleasure of participating.
So I have an open attitude towards meme coins.
In this round of market, I often have a question in my mind:
Why are so many meme coins issued on Solana instead of Ethereum ecosystem?
If Ethereum's high fees are not suitable for meme coins, then many Ethereum L2 fees are low enough now, why are there no meme coins that are even slightly famous in those ecosystems?
If the details described above are true, then DEX and wallets, as the main battlefield of meme coins, have deliberately blocked and suppressed them, and their behavior has destroyed the characteristics of "anti-censorship".
In my opinion, the core of decentralization and anti-censorship is:
The tool itself is neutral and can be used by both good and bad people. What should be punished is the bad people who use tools to do evil, rather than deciding whether to give him tools based on subjective judgment of whether a person is good or bad in advance.
The deliberate suppression of meme coins by Uniswap and Little Fox is as unreasonable and absurd as the previous US Department of Commerce's arbitrary blacklisting of Tornado Cash's related addresses.
Fortunately, the US judicial system has curbed the US government's arrogance.
A centralized world can do this, and I believe a decentralized world is more capable of doing this.
These details also show from another perspective how important it is for us to insist on decentralization.
If an ecosystem has censored apps, then it must also have censorship-resistant apps. The censored apps cannot monopolize the development of the ecosystem, and users must be given the freedom to choose.
Only when users have the right to choose can the development of the ecosystem be dynamic and creative.
If only one choice is allowed in an ecosystem, such an ecosystem will eventually become rigid.
From another perspective, in the crypto ecosystem, it is precisely because of the competition among multiple blockchains, the "decentralization" of this ecosystem, and the popularity of Solana on meme coins that we can see that the core projects in the Ethereum ecosystem still have such censorship and suppression.
The above are some of the main points of this article.
In addition to this article, there are also some controversial tweets from Vitalik and discussions about the Ethereum Foundation circulating on the Internet.
I believe Vitalik and his team can solve these problems.
After all, compared with the The DAO incident in 2016, the problems presented by this round of Ethereum's slump are much easier to solve.
Back to the three standards I listed above, I think there is no problem with Ethereum's decentralization for the time being. The team and ecology have been affected to some extent, but there is still a chance to recover.
I still believe that this young founder can lead his team and Ethereum out of the current predicament and solve the problems encountered in development.
I believe he can "Make Ethereum Great Again".
