Sony’s Soneium Partners with Line to Bring Web3 Mini-Games to Millions
Sony’s blockchain subsidiary, Soneium, is teaming up with the Japanese social network Line, one of Asia’s largest digital platforms, to introduce Web3-enabled mini-games to its massive user base of 200 million.
This partnership aims to make blockchain integration seamless for both developers and players, offering a new layer of digital experiences without technical friction.
Line’s Transition from Finschia to Web3 Expansion
Line, which previously operated its own blockchain, Finschia, merged with Kakao’s Klaytn blockchain in 2024 to form the Kaia network.
Now, the company is taking its next major step into Web3 by integrating four successful mini-games into the Soneium ecosystem.
Jun Watanabe, chairman of Sony Block Solutions Labs, expressed confidence in the collaboration, stating,
“LINE has built a strong presence, and integrating successful mini-apps into the Soneium ecosystem is a next step toward making Soneium more accessible.
We believe this collaboration will drive engagement and adoption in ways that were previously difficult to achieve.”
Four Mini-Games Going Onchain with Soneium
The first phase of the integration will see four Web3-powered mini-games joining Line’s platform through Soneium.
- Sleepagotchi LITE – A spin-off of the upcoming Sleepagotchi sleep rewards app, this game allows users to play multiple times daily to earn points, which will later transfer to the full version. After attracting one million users in a month on Telegram, its launch on Line is expected to expand its reach even further.
- Farm Frens – A farming game with a whimsical and community-driven appeal, Farm Frens initially gained traction on Telegram and is now looking to onboard Line’s Web2 users into the crypto space. Developed by Amihan Entertainment, the game has secured over $10 million in funding.
- Moonveil – Puffy Match – Created by Moonveil.gg, a zk-L2 and AI-powered gaming ecosystem, Puffy Match offers quick, engaging gameplay designed for community participation and rewards. Bringing this game to Line introduces Moonveil’s infrastructure to millions of potential Web3 users.
- Pocket Mob – Developed by Sonzai Labs, creators of @TeleMafia, Pocket Mob is a social strategy RPG where players form families, battle in Mafia-style scenarios, and earn Respect points that can convert into NFT rewards. By integrating with Line, Pocket Mob taps into a broader social gaming audience.
Soneium’s Role in Simplifying Web3 Adoption
Soneium, which operates as an Ethereum Layer-2 network using Optimism’s OP Stack, has rapidly gained traction, amassing over one million accounts and four million total addresses since its launch.
However, like many blockchain platforms, it has faced fluctuations in active user numbers due to crypto market volatility.
The partnership with Line provides an opportunity to reinvigorate adoption by embedding Web3 experiences within an already thriving digital ecosystem.
Beyond gaming, the collaboration extends to developers building on the Line Mini App framework.
Soneium will offer strategic marketing support, community engagement initiatives, and brand collaboration opportunities, ensuring developers can focus on innovation while Soneium handles growth strategies.
A New Era for Web3 in Asia
Line has long been an integral part of digital life in Asia, serving as a go-to platform for messaging, payments, and mini-apps.
With this new collaboration, Web3 adoption could become more accessible to a mainstream audience, removing barriers that have often hindered broader blockchain adoption.
For Sony, this initiative aligns with a larger vision of embedding blockchain technology into widely used digital platforms rather than requiring users to adopt entirely new ecosystems.
The integration of Web3 mini-apps on Line signals a shift toward mainstream blockchain experiences—where users engage seamlessly without needing prior technical knowledge.
As the rollout progresses in the coming months, all eyes will be on how successfully Line’s massive user base embraces this next stage of blockchain-powered entertainment.
