Ghost in the Shell Steps Into the NFT Arena
Ghost in the Shell is set to make its non-fungible token (NFT) debut as Hong Kong-based gaming company Animoca Brands releases a limited series of tokens inspired by the iconic 1995 film.
Launching on Ethereum, the NFTs mark the first installment in Animoca's "AnimeTraits" collection, which will be exclusively available on the SORAH by Animoca Brands Japan platform and will go live on 31 October.
The collection will feature 500 character NFTs from the movie, each priced at 0.018 ETH and crafted using the ERC-721 standard.
Additionally, Animoca will offer customisation options for owners of its Mocaverse, CoolCats, and San FranTokyo collections, following a strategic partnership with CoolCats in late 2023.
This move signals a renewed push by Japan-linked firms to merge anime with blockchain innovation.
Anime Steps Into Web3
Launched in June, SORAH debuted with the San FranTokyo profile picture collection, followed by NFTs featuring The Sandbox and the iconic manga series Captain Tsubasa.
The media outlet wrote:
“The Ghost in the Shell NFT collection is likely to attract attention as a new attempt to spread the popularity of popular Japan anime titles in the web3 world.”
The platform enables transactions on Ethereum and Polygon, supporting popular crypto wallets like MetaMask and WalletConnect.
Ghost in the Shell, originally a 1989 manga, became a landmark sci-fi franchise with adaptations into video games, multiple anime series, and a live-action film starring Scarlett Johansson in 2017.
