As the countdown to the 2024 US presidential election continues, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has publicly declared his support for Donald Trump. In an exclusive interview with conservative commentator Tucker Carlson, Musk expressed concerns about the consequences of a Trump defeat, particularly if Democratic candidate Kamala Harris were to win. He suggested that such a scenario could result in his own imprisonment and the immediate bankruptcy of his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter).
Musk stated that if Harris wins, her administration might pursue legal action against him and X, especially if the Democrats repeal Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. How long do you think my sentence would be? Would I see my kids again? I don’t know."
Musk Warns Harris Victory Could End U.S. Democracy and Create One-Party State
Musk articulated his belief that a Harris victory could signal the end of democratic elections in the United States. He warned that if Harris and Biden continue to govern, they would facilitate the legalisation of millions of undocumented immigrants, ensuring a steady stream of votes that would eliminate swing states. He argued, "My prediction is that if the Democratic government remains in power for four more years, they will legalise so many illegal immigrants that there won't be any swing states in the next election." He further claimed this could lead to a one-party state.
To support his argument, Musk referenced the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, which granted amnesty to millions of undocumented immigrants and ultimately shifted California's political landscape toward the Democratic Party. He asserted that a sufficient number of new citizens would eliminate the existence of swing states, stating, "We want to maintain democracy; we don't want to become a one-party country."

Musk's Support for Trump: Rallying Crowds and Launching Petition for Swing State Voter Registration
Musk's commitment to Trump is evident not only in his words but also in his actions. He recently appeared at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania, energetically encouraging attendees to vote for Trump and defend free speech and fair elections. "President Trump must win to protect the Constitution! Go register to vote and get everyone you know to vote! Nothing is more important!" Musk rallied the crowd, leading them in chants of "Fight, fight, fight! Vote, vote, vote!"
Additionally, on October 7, Musk initiated an online petition and financially incentivised supporters in swing states to gather signatures. Participants were offered $47 (approximately NT$1,500) for each registered voter they could recruit from a swing state.

Musk's Financial Support for Trump Solidifies His Role as a Key Political Ally
Musk’s financial backing for Trump's campaign has also been significant, having donated millions to super PACs supporting Trump. His efforts have made him a formidable ally for Trump, who praised Musk at a Pennsylvania rally, highlighting his contributions to Tesla and his role in protecting free speech through X. Trump also promised to appoint Musk to lead a government efficiency committee if he returns to the White House.
As the election approaches, Musk's involvement in Trump's campaign demonstrates his commitment to shaping the political landscape and the future of democracy in the United States.
