Since 2017, o1Labs has released zkApps and practical tools such as o1js and Kimchi, continuing to lead the Mina ecosystem transformation. o1Labs recently officially released the 2025 roadmap developed in cooperation with the Mina community.
o1Labs not only continues to pay attention to the development of all aspects of the Mina ecosystem, but is also an important builder of the Mina Protocol. Since 2017, the o1Labs team has been at the forefront of designing the Mina Protocol and developing zkApps tools. From the launch of the Mina mainnet in 2021 to the activation of zkApps at the beginning of this year, the team has been committed to promoting the development of zero-knowledge encryption technology.
In addition to Mina Protocol, o1Labs also develops and maintains o1js (our TypeScript library for zk-SNARKs and zkApps) and Kimchi (a modular, general-purpose, PLONK-based zero-knowledge proof system). Whether you are a zkApp developer, node operator, or project founder, your feedback will bring us closer to our shared vision: an Internet where developers use programmable cryptography to create more powerful and trustless applications.
Today, we are excited to share our 2025 roadmap with you. This roadmap records the feedback we received from the Mina community and outlines how to gradually achieve each level of tasks to get closer to Mina's ultimate goal. Although the roadmap is only a simplification and epitome of o1Labs' future tasks, we also hope that the community will understand our clear direction and provide us with more reference opinions and optimization proposals in the process of joint iteration.
Let’s see what happens next…

Giving Mina developers the toolkit they need to build the next generation of zkApps
One of o1Labs’ top priorities is to ensure zkApp developers have access to a comprehensive set of tools to build the applications they envision, including refactoring o1js with a complete API overhaul, and providing robust documentation, tutorials, and sample applications. In addition, the team is working on developing o1VM and bringing new features to zkApp developers.
Making Mina ubiquitous and fast
Continuously improving Mina’s performance is key to optimizing a seamless experience for users and developers. In 2025, o1Labs will focus on shortening slot times to increase transaction processing speed, optimizing node operation and maintenance, and applying cutting-edge Folding technology throughout the network to improve scalability, which will help optimize Mina network performance and meet the basic needs of continued ecological expansion.
Solving the state management problem in the Web3 field
State management remains a key challenge for Mina and the broader blockchain field. To address this problem, o1Labs has launched an innovative way to manage application state. This project aims to redefine the way data is stored, updated, and verified in the decentralized field. Check out the related blog to learn more about our vision for state management.
o1Roadmap
The roadmap is divided into three parts: "Now", "Next", and "Later". Although not all listed projects can be completed by the end of 2025, these categories clearly divide the focus of o1Labs' next stage of work
Now: Projects in progress or about to be delivered
Next: Focus of current plans
Later: Projects that have a significant impact but cannot be put into development immediately due to current production capacity constraints will be given higher priority in the subsequent construction process

Each focus area is aligned with the needs of a specific contributor to Mina (zkApp developers, node operators, applied cryptographers, etc.). By structuring our work in this way, we aim to provide tailored, high-impact improvements to our community.
Your feedback shapes the future
"Transparency" is a core value of o1Labs. The roadmap presented in this article still has a lot of room for improvement, and we will also publish more detailed introduction articles based on the team's focus areas. You are welcome to join the Mina official community Discord in #general and provide feedback for us to further optimize the project details.
