Yescoin Founder Zhang Chi Detained By ShangHai Authorities After A Long Civil Dispute That Lasted Nearly A Year Escalated Into A Criminal Case
Yescoin founder Zhang chi, also known as Zoroo, was detained by Shanghai police following a business dispute with his business partner, according to an official statement made by the project on its X account.
The detention follows a business dispute with his partner, identified as Wang Mouxin or "OldWang." The social media statement also revealed that the dispute started as a civil matter, but later escalated into a criminal case, raising concerns within the Yescoin community.
"We regret to inform you that Zoroo, the founder of Yescoin, has been taken away from Hangzhou by Shanghai police due to a dispute with his business partner, OldWang," the post wrote.
Yescoin, operating within the TON ecosystem, tried to integrate blockchain technology with gaming, offering users a decentralized platform for mini-games.
The project has garnered attention for its innovative approach to combining gaming with blockchain, attracting a diverse user base interest in both sectors.
Timeline of the dispute
Apparently, the dispute between Zhang Chi and his partner Wang did not occur suddenly, but due to internal interests and the distribution of rights which stretch from July last year till today.
The dispute apparently started in July 2024, where both parties had disagreements due to the unclear distribution of internal interest. The conflict was temporarily reconciled but reemerged again multiple times between July to November 2024.
In December 2024, the Yescoin Hangzhou server was lost. Despite reporting the case to the authorities, the police case wasn't filed.
On February 10, 2025, Yescoin was attacked and the ownership of the Telegram bot and the main channel was lost. On February 12, 2025, Zhang Chi was arrested on suspicion of illegally obtaining computer information system data.
While disputes among partners is very common, but how did this dispute of interest turn into a criminal case?
Community's reaction to the case
Following the announcement, community reactions have been overwhelmingly negative. Some users questioned the project's integrity and speculated about the nature of the dispute, with some calling Yescoin a scam and expressing doubts about its long-term viability.
Yescoin also has yet to have its Token generation event (TGE). The project cited repeated cyberattacks as the reason for the launch delays but maintains that the token will go live on March.
Hence, many have speculated that this could be a publicity stunt or somehow fabricated for the project to avoid its token generation event. One user wrote
"Since Q1 is nearly ending, they're starting excuses, no tge is coming here."
A few investors have also expressed their panic and disbelief that Yescoin's core team is based in Mainland China, a country that has been infamous for its strict stance on crypto.
Yescoin also previously released an announcement in Chinese, stating that the co-founder, Zhang, is actually still a student in Zhejiang University.
The project has expressed regret over the incident and acknowledged how this incident could disrupt the community's consensus and peace. Because of this, the project has expressed its sadness over the disruption caused.
Despite Zhang's detention, the project has assured users that the platform will continue to operate normally. The project also reiterated its commitment to maintaining platform stability and upholding community trust.
