Mexico to Continue Oil Shipments to Cuba Despite U.S. Tariff Threats

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has announced that Mexico will persist in supplying oil to Cuba through diplomatic channels, citing humanitarian reasons, despite threats from U.S. President Donald Trump to impose retaliatory tariffs. According to Jin10, Sheinbaum stated during an event in Sonora that Mexico will also send humanitarian aid for other essential products this week. Mexico has become a key focus of Trump's efforts to weaken the Cuban government. Following a reduction in supplies from Venezuela, Mexico remains one of the few foreign fuel suppliers to Cuba. For years, Venezuela exchanged heavily subsidized oil for medical and security personnel. Last month, Trump authorized his administration to impose tariffs on countries providing oil to Cuba, increasing pressure on the Caribbean nation. Sheinbaum warned on Friday that Trump's latest tariff threats against countries supporting Cuba could lead to a humanitarian disaster locally.
