Lufthansa Cargo Sees Opportunity Amid Middle East Disruptions

Lufthansa Cargo CEO Ashwin Bhat has highlighted unexpected opportunities arising from the ongoing conflict in Iran, which has disrupted operations for Middle Eastern competitors. According to Jin10, the situation has led to a significant withdrawal of cargo capacity from the market, benefiting Lufthansa's freight business. Bhat noted a 10% to 15% increase in demand last week, with particularly strong growth in India and Southeast Asia. Lufthansa Cargo has responded by adding four new cargo flights to India, while shipments to Southeast Asia have surged by approximately 40%. Last year, Lufthansa Cargo reported an operating profit of €324 million, accounting for about 17% of the group's total profit.
