The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced the recall of approximately 89,592 bottles of children's ibuprofen distributed nationwide. According to Jin10, the recall was initiated following consumer complaints about foreign substances in the medication. The affected product, branded as Taro Pharmaceutical's "Children's Ibuprofen Oral Suspension," was manufactured by Progress Pharmaceuticals, an international pharmaceutical company based in Bangalore, India. Each 120 ml bottle contains 100 mg of ibuprofen per 5 ml. The recall affects products with an expiration date of January 31, 2027.
The FDA's recall report indicates that consumers reported finding "gel-like substances" and "black particles" in the liquid medication. The agency has classified this recall as a "Class II recall," which suggests that the product may cause temporary or reversible health effects, with a low probability of serious adverse consequences. The FDA's website explains that Class II recalls are issued when there is a potential for temporary health issues, but the likelihood of severe outcomes is minimal.
