South Korea's presidential office announced on January 27 that the country's trade envoy will soon visit the United States to meet with the U.S. Trade Representative to discuss the implementation of trade agreements. According to BlockBeats, South Korea aims to express its commitment to enforcing tariff agreements during these discussions. Earlier today, U.S. President Donald Trump announced an increase in tariffs on South Korean goods, stating, "The South Korean National Assembly has not fulfilled the agreement reached with the United States. I, along with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, reached a mutually beneficial agreement on July 30, 2025, and reaffirmed these terms during my visit to South Korea on October 29, 2025. Why has the South Korean National Assembly not yet approved this agreement? Since the South Korean National Assembly has not passed our historic trade agreement, which is within their power, I hereby announce an increase in reciprocal tariffs on South Korean automobiles, timber, pharmaceuticals, and all other goods from 15% to 25%."
