TSMC to Begin Advanced 3nm Chip Production in Japan

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is set to commence production of advanced 3-nanometer chips in Japan, marking a significant upgrade in its manufacturing plans in the country. According to Jin10, this decision represents a major victory for Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's technological ambitions. TSMC, a preferred chip manufacturer for companies like Nvidia and Apple, will implement cutting-edge technology at its second wafer plant in Kumamoto. Sources indicate that this move significantly advances the original plan to produce 7-nanometer chips by the end of 2027. As reported by Yomiuri Shimbun on Thursday, TSMC plans to increase its total investment in the southern Japan factory to 2.6 trillion yen to support this expansion. However, insiders caution that TSMC's plans in Japan are still in the early stages of discussion and may be subject to change.
