India-U.S. Trade Agreement Excludes GMO Imports, Addresses Agricultural Concerns

India's Trade Minister Goyal announced on Saturday that the India-U.S. trade agreement does not include provisions for importing genetically modified agricultural products. According to Jin10, this statement addresses concerns from agricultural groups regarding market access and food standards under the agreement. On Friday, the United States and India unveiled a provisional framework agreement aimed at reducing tariffs, reshaping energy relations, and deepening economic cooperation. Both nations aim to adjust global supply chains to further advance the trade agreement. Goyal noted that as part of the agreed agricultural trade concessions, the agreement allows certain Indian agricultural products, including bananas and mangoes, to enter the U.S. market duty-free.
