France has expressed surprise over the European Union Commission's decision to send officials to a U.S.-initiated 'Peace Committee' meeting without authorization from the European Council. According to Jin10, French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Anne-Claire Legendre stated on February 19 that the EU official involved should provide an explanation for attending the meeting. Legendre emphasized that France cannot participate in the committee unless its focus is clearly defined on the Gaza situation, highlighting concerns over the committee's ambiguous scope.
