Framework Ventures and Better Collaborate on $500 Million DeFi Integration Plan

Crypto venture firm Framework Ventures has joined forces with mortgage services company Better to initiate a $500 million integration with the decentralized finance protocol Sky, previously known as MakerDAO. According to Cointelegraph, Better announced on Monday that Framework would assist in providing $500 million in credit to Sky’s stablecoin ecosystem. This initiative aims to launch tokens linked to mortgages, which are expected to generate yield. Vance Spencer, co-founder of Framework Ventures, highlighted the significance of real-world assets in decentralized finance, noting that government-backed conforming mortgages represent one of the largest asset classes globally. This development occurs amid a growing interest in tokenization among traditional finance companies, with entities like BlackRock exploring tokenization for money market funds. Initially, the tokens will be available only to accredited investors, but there are plans to expand access. Fortune reported on Monday that Framework has also agreed to acquire 10% of Better’s stock, valued at approximately $45 million. Better's founder and CEO, Vishal Garg, mentioned the intention to issue the tokens and explore ways to make them accessible to consumers, although no specific launch date was provided. The retail-focused tokens are expected to be named “Home Token,” according to a source familiar with the plans. Meanwhile, shares of Better, listed on Nasdaq under the ticker BETR, have faced challenges, peaking at over $86 in late October but subsequently declining. The stock closed at around $27 on Monday, marking a nearly 17% decrease this year. Better's shares ended Monday's trading session down nearly 6%, continuing their downward trend since October. Garg explained to Fortune that the company's venture into crypto is motivated by the potential for reduced fees and operating costs, emphasizing the ability to eliminate multiple layers of intermediation. He expressed confidence that by achieving lower financing costs than competitors in the mortgage market, Better could offer consumers more affordable mortgage options.
