OpenAI Introduces WebSocket Mode for Enhanced API Performance

OpenAI has introduced a WebSocket mode for its Responses API, aimed at optimizing complex workflows involving frequent tool calls. According to PANews, this mode establishes a persistent connection and supports incremental input, enhancing the execution speed of tasks with over 20 tool calls by approximately 40%. Additionally, the WebSocket mode is compatible with the Zero Data Retention (ZDR) standard, allowing for low-latency context continuation using previous_response_id. Currently, the duration of a single connection is limited to 60 minutes.
