U.S. Senate Republicans have dismissed the latest proposal from Democrats aimed at ending the prolonged shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security, which has significantly disrupted air travel. According to Jin10, Senate Majority Leader John Thune criticized the proposal, stating, "It doesn't even qualify as real." He explained that the proposal consists of a list of nine demands, including requiring law enforcement officers to cease using masks and start utilizing judicial search warrants.
Democrats have not publicly disclosed the details of their proposal, but they have previously advocated for enhanced training for Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel, expanded use of body cameras, and badges clearly displaying law enforcement officers' names. Thune emphasized that he would not accept any policy adjustments to immigration enforcement unless the funding agreement simultaneously supports these law enforcement activities.
