India's Digital Rupee Pilots Aim to Enhance Welfare System Efficiency

India is integrating its welfare system, valued at approximately $80 billion, with around ten e-rupee pilot programs to promote the adoption of the digital rupee. According to NS3.AI, one of these pilots in Gujarat targets reaching 7.5 million households eligible for subsidized food by June. This initiative seeks to provide a more defined use case for the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) following its gradual introduction.
