CAISI, a unit of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), reported that DeepSeek V4 Pro is approximately eight months behind the U.S. frontier in a recent evaluation. According to NS3.AI, the assessment, released on May 1, utilized Item Response Theory across nine benchmarks, including two non-public datasets, making the results difficult to replicate. Additionally, Stanford's 2026 AI Index indicated that the gap between the U.S. and China on public leaderboards has narrowed to 2.7%.
