Anthropic Walks Back Data Retention Policy After Enterprise Customer Feedback

According to CNBC, Anthropic said it will reverse a controversial data retention policy after receiving a lot of feedback from business customers and will replace it with a new system called Enterprise Frontier Safeguards. The company said the new controls will let businesses decide how their data is reviewed, stored and managed, and will allow automated safety monitoring without Anthropic human review. Anthropic said it will not charge for Enterprise Frontier Safeguards, and the controls will work whether customers access its technology directly or through a cloud provider. Kate Jensen, head of Americas at Anthropic, said the company spent hundreds of hours working with customers to develop the alternative. Anthropic introduced the earlier policy in June alongside Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, requiring 30-day retention for all traffic on those models to help defend against misuse and complex cyberattacks. The company said Enterprise Frontier Safeguards will roll out in phases and is aiming for broader availability this fall.
