According to PANews, a recent report by MV Global indicates that decentralized science (DeSci) is expected to experience significant growth by 2025, driven by practical memecoins. DeSci involves integrating blockchain technology into scientific research, aiming to revolutionize the traditional scientific ecosystem through enhanced transparency, decentralization, and collaboration. The report highlights that while the concept is not new, the focus and scope of these initiatives have evolved. Initially, most projects concentrated on funding research through decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), with notable examples including VitaDAO, HairDAO, and AxonDAO, which remain influential in the DeSci field. However, the sector has significantly diversified. The report emphasizes various use cases of approximately 30 active projects, including research funding, health data management, and open-source research programs. This diversity reflects the growing maturity and adaptability of the DeSci ecosystem. DeSci aims to create a more inclusive and equitable scientific ecosystem, enabling researchers and communities to collaborate and innovate without the constraints of central institutions. A trend identified for 2024 is the emergence of DeSci-specific memecoins. While most projects have seen limited success, Rifampicin and Urolithin A have achieved significant development, with market capitalizations of approximately $73 million and $59 million, respectively. These tokens, launched through the Pump.Science platform, are assessed by MV Global to have utility far exceeding traditional memecoins. The tokens are directly related to scientific experiments, representing specific compounds or interventions tested on organisms like worms, flies, and mice. They serve as funding mechanisms for research, providing real-time updates on experimental progress and facilitating transactions based on research outcomes. Token holders can even sell rights to successful interventions, creating a tangible link between token ownership and real-world scientific advancements. MV Global anticipates that Pump.Science will significantly expand by 2025, with at least ten projects expected to surpass a market capitalization of $100 million by the end of the year. Additionally, MV Global predicts substantial growth in health data management and open-source collaborative research by 2025. Projects like Hippocrat, which empowers individuals to control their health data, and ResearchCoin, aimed at establishing a "GitHub for scientific research," are promising. Both are projected to reach market valuations of at least $200 million by 2025. The report also forecasts a significant increase in DeSci projects, with at least 50 expected to be listed by the end of 2025.
