Tornado Cash Co-Founder Trial Begins with Jury Selection and Opening Statements

According to PANews, the trial of Tornado Cash co-founder Storm commenced with the first day of court proceedings concluding. The jury, composed of seven women and five men, includes members with half under the age of 31. During the opening statements, the U.S. Department of Justice described Tornado Cash as a "money laundering machine," alleging that Storm and his co-founders were the orchestrators. However, the defense argued that the prosecution failed to establish a direct link between Storm and any criminal activities, emphasizing that he merely developed a tool that was misused. The trial also highlighted that the government plans to call hackers who have used Tornado Cash to testify. Acknowledging the challenge of convincing the jury, the defense began explaining technical details during the opening statements and intends to call expert witnesses, including specialists in token economics, to testify. The trial is set to continue tomorrow.
