Samourai Wallet Founders Face Sentencing for Money Laundering Charges

According to PANews, U.S. prosecutors in the Southern District of New York have accused Samourai Wallet founders Keonne Rodriguez and William Lonergan Hill of soliciting criminal users on the dark web and describing 'mixing' as 'Bitcoin money laundering.' The pair have pleaded guilty to operating an unlicensed money transmission business involving criminal funds. Prosecutors are seeking a maximum sentence of five years under 18 U.S.C. §371. Authorities claim the service laundered at least $237 million from 2015 to 2024, with Rodriguez and Hill collecting fees totaling approximately 246.3 BTC, currently valued at around $269 million. Rodriguez is scheduled for sentencing on November 6, followed by Hill on November 7.
