Who is Shin Fujiyama?
Shin Fujiyama is a Japanese American philanthropist who co-founded Students Helping Honduras in 2007 with his sister Cosmo after visiting the country on a service trip.
Shin Fujiyama who received two Bitcoins from Nayib Bukele to support educational initiatives in Honduras.
Born in a fishing village in Japan, he graduated from the University of Mary Washington with a degree in International Affairs and pre-medicine and is fluent in four languages.
In 2020, he gained popularity in Honduras by sharing his daily life on YouTube.
Currently undertaking a 3,000-kilometre charity run in El Salvador to raise funds for his ambitious project, Fujiyama expressed his heartfelt gratitude to President Bukele in an emotional video.
“Thank you so much for your donation. It means the world to us,” he stated, highlighting the profound impact of Bukele’s support.
His organisation has been tirelessly working to address socio-economic challenges in the region, emphasising the pressing need for educational resources in Honduras.

Reiterating his stance, Bukele declared,
“We will continue to buy one Bitcoin each day until it becomes unaffordable.”

While he has acknowledged that the adoption of Bitcoin has not been as widespread as hoped, he clarified,
“We have never forced anyone to adopt it. We offered it as an option, and those who chose to use it have benefited from the rise in Bitcoin.”
