X TV Beta Launch is Here
Close to five months after Elon Musk suggested a potential X TV app, the social media company has officially launched its beta version.
Announced on Monday via X (formerly Twitter), X TV now allows users to stream content directly on their televisions.
Positioned as a possible competitor to YouTube, X TV leverages the extensive user base of Musk's "free speech" platform.
A video accompanying the announcement hints at exclusive content from SpaceX and Tucker Carlson, adding to the platform's appeal.
Elon Musk's "Everything App" Vision Aligns with X TV
In April, X ventured deeper into the video and entertainment space by introducing the TV app.
Although the exact launch date was not disclosed, it was expected to bring the social media platform into close competition with Alphabet Inc.'s YouTube.
The app now allows smart TV owners to cast videos from their smartphones to their larger screens.
This new development could lead to significant adoption by X users and potentially generate substantial revenue for Musk and his company.
Prior to the app's introduction, X users watched 23 billion minutes of video on the platform, providing a strong foundation for the new product.
The social media platform is also exploring the incorporation of advertisements.
If successful, this could benefit sectors like crypto that aim to promote non-mainstream media-friendly products and services.
It reflects Musk's ongoing efforts to expand the X app.
Musk remains focused on transforming X from a text and image-based social platform into a more comprehensive "everything app.”
X TV Available on Selected Apps
The beta version of the X TV app is now available on Android TV, LG, Amazon Fire TV, and Google TV devices.
While the app is currently live on these platforms, it is expected to expand to additional devices over time.
The rollout has been staggered: Amazon users gained access in late July, while LG users received it on 29 August.
To access content, users must log in or sign up for an X account.
The app promises to deliver exclusive content, news, and live events, marking a significant step in expanding Musk's vision for the platform.
X TV's app description on Google Play states:
“The X app is the trusted global digital town square for everyone, on your TV! Discover a new way to experience the world of X, as we bring you unique and engaging content right to your living room.”
