Tech billionaire Elon Musk has once again changed his display name on X. This time, the Tesla CEO has changed his name to Gorklon Rust from Elon Musk, making many users speculating about the meaning behind this cryptic moniker.
This is not the first time Musk has changed his username. Just earlier this year, he changed his X user name to Kekium Maximus and updated his profile picture to feature the iconic "Pepe the Frog" meme holding a video game joystick.
The new user name seems to be a blend of references: one of which being Grok, the name of the artificial intelligence chatbot developed by Musk's own AI company, xAI, the second "Rust", likely referring to the Rust programming language, which is reportedly used within the XAI's technological infrastructure.
This name reference ultimately suggests a connection to his AI ventures.
Gorklon Rusk is also the name of a memecoin which is circulating on the Solana blockchain. Currently, the memecoin is being traded on decentralised platforms like PumpSwap, Raydium, and Meteora.
Musk made the name change shortly after announcing a significant overhaul to X's recommendation algorithm.
On Saturday, Musk revealed that the social media platform will now integrate artificial intelligence to enhance user experience. He said a lightweight version to Grok will be embedded to X's recommendation system.
"The X recommendation algorithm is being replaced with a lightweight version of Grok. It will soon be dramatically better!" Musk said.
As soon as the name Gorklon Rust emerged, X users went crazy with the memes in all directions. Some fans were also convinced that Gorklon Rust was actually a secret project in disguise, and the name was a hint of the release.
