Tokenised Money Market ETFs Set to Transform Investment Landscape
Hong Kong's financial sector is about to witness a major development as two leading players, HashKey Group and Bosera Asset Management, collaborate to launch the world’s first tokenised money market exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
This new initiative aims to transform how investors access high-quality money market instruments by using blockchain technology alongside traditional financial offerings.
Introducing the Tokenised ETFs
The new tokenised money market ETFs are set to offer investors exposure to the Bosera HKD Money Market ETF and the Bosera USD Money Market ETF.
The funds are denominated in Hong Kong dollars (HKD) and US dollars (USD) respectively.
Already approved by the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), the launch is scheduled for April 2025.
This development merges the stability of money market funds with the speed and transparency of blockchain, offering a digital format that simplifies asset management.
The launch promises to address the evolving needs of both traditional investors and the rapidly growing DeFi (Decentralised Finance) community.
Hong Kong's Role in Shaping the Future of Finance
At the heart of this initiative lies Hong Kong's ambitious "Project Ensemble."
Spearheaded by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the project is a sandbox designed to explore the tokenisation of real-world assets.

This collaboration between HashKey Group and Bosera Asset Management is a critical step in Hong Kong's broader strategy to position itself as a global hub for Web3 and blockchain-based financial innovation.
HashKey’s involvement in this initiative further highlights its commitment to bridging the gap between conventional finance and digital assets.
Dr. Xiao Feng, Chairman and CEO of HashKey Group, expressed his belief that the tokenisation of money market ETFs is a significant move for the finance industry.
He stated,
“Bringing money market ETFs on-chain is a crucial step for the finance industry to embrace the potential of Web3.”
How the Tokenisation Will Benefit Investors
The tokenisation of these ETFs offers numerous advantages, including enhanced transparency, increased liquidity, and more efficient operational management.
The digital format of these ETFs allows for quicker transactions and provides investors with greater control over their investments.
These benefits are expected to attract not only traditional institutional investors but also those involved in the DeFi space who are seeking alternative ways to diversify their portfolios.
Bosera Asset Management, a forward-thinking asset manager, sees this launch as a logical progression in the financial sector.
By leveraging blockchain technology, Bosera aims to provide a stable and secure investment vehicle that can act as a “yield stabiliser” for investors, combining the benefits of traditional money market funds with the innovation of digital assets.
HashKey Exchange to Serve as Distribution Hub
The success of this tokenised product will rely heavily on HashKey Exchange, which will act as the primary distribution channel for the ETFs.
As the largest regulated virtual asset trading platform in Hong Kong, HashKey Exchange's involvement ensures a seamless and secure experience for investors.
The platform, which gained licensing in August 2023, has positioned itself as a leader in the region’s cryptocurrency ecosystem.
To further strengthen security and asset management, HashKey will employ its proprietary blockchain infrastructure, HashKey Chain, and NexaToken services to manage the tokenised ETFs.
This robust technological framework provides investors with confidence in the integrity and reliability of their digital assets.
A Step Towards Integrating Traditional Finance with Web3
The tokenisation of money market ETFs represents a bold move towards integrating traditional finance with the emerging Web3 ecosystem.
As the demand for digital asset investment solutions grows, Hong Kong is positioning itself as a key player in this space through regulatory measures that encourage innovation while ensuring investor protection.
Dr. Xiao Feng believes this move is just the beginning.
He remarked,
“Under the current market trend of compliance, we expect more traditional financial institutions to actively enter the crypto finance sector through innovative tokenisation products.”
This sentiment reflects a growing trend of traditional institutions exploring blockchain technology as a means to enhance their offerings and stay ahead in the rapidly changing financial landscape.
As the project unfolds, both HashKey Group and Bosera Asset Management aim to create a new model for financial products that blends the strengths of traditional investment methods with the dynamic potential of blockchain technology.
