A recent incident at Plaza Singapura involved the alleged theft of a rare Labubu figurine from Clawpitiam, a claw machine shop. On October 16, a young woman reportedly stole the figurine, which is soon to be discontinued, from the shop.
The shop’s 43-year-old owner discovered the theft while conducting an inventory check and noticed a box of Labubu figurines missing from the shelf. Security footage revealed that a young woman, appearing to be in her teens, had taken the figurine at approximately 1:30 PM. She was seen walking around the store before leaving without paying for the item.
The video footage shows the woman, dressed in a black and white top and jeans, heading directly to the display where the Labubu figurines were placed. She quickly grabbed an item from the top shelf.
The shop owner, who preferred to remain anonymous, explained that the figurine was prominently displayed near the entrance of the shop, making it an easy target. After taking the item, the woman reportedly checked the shop to locate the owner. Not seeing him at the counter, she then exited the store with the stolen figurine.
The stolen item, identified as a first-generation Labubu Macaron V1, is expected to be discontinued soon, as a second generation is about to be released. Originally priced at just over $20, its value has increased to over $50 due to its scarcity.
In an effort to recover the figurine, the shop owner posted the CCTV footage online on its Instagram page, hoping that the young woman might voluntarily return the stolen item. The caption writes "Say Cheese!! U r on candid camera gal!!", adding that the thief has 24 hours to return to the shop and surrender the stolen item before the incident is reported to the police.
He is still contemplating whether to report the incident to the authorities, expressing a desire to give the girl an opportunity to make amends. “She’s still young and should be given a chance to turn over a new leaf. I hope she returns the item soon, and we won’t pursue the matter further,” he said.
