Donald Trump expressed support for Florida’s Amendment 3, which aims to legalise marijuana use for adults.
Although he did not formally endorse the measure, Trump stated on Truth Social that marijuana legalisation "will happen," regardless of opposition.
He emphasised that no one should face criminal charges for possessing small amounts of marijuana, especially as it is already legal in many other states.
Implications of Amendment 3
If passed, Amendment 3 would allow 25 state-licensed companies to sell marijuana for recreational use and permit possession of up to 3 ounces.
The amendment is backed by Florida's lucrative medical marijuana industry, generating over $2 billion annually.
Trump also expressed support for prohibiting public marijuana use, aligning his stance with broader regulatory measures.

Abortion and Contradictory Messaging
In addition to Amendment 3, Trump is eligible to vote on Amendment 4, which seeks to extend the state's abortion limit from 6 to 24 weeks.
Although he initially signalled support for this amendment, he later reversed his position, creating uncertainty about his stance on abortion rights.
Trump's mixed messages reflect his ongoing struggle to navigate these divisive issues within the Republican Party.

DeSantis's Opposition
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has opposed both amendments, particularly marijuana legalisation.
He launched the "No on 3" campaign, warning that the initiative could lead to widespread marijuana use in public spaces. DeSantis’s strong stance contrasts with Trump’s more moderate approach, highlighting the differing strategies within the Republican Party on these key issues.
