Vivek Ramaswamy's has announced his exit from DOGE just two months after he was appointed the co-leader of DOGE, leaving Musk as the sole leader of the cost-cutting advisory group.
Ramaswamy announced his decision on X just hours after President Donald Trump officially started his second term in office, expressing confidence in Musk and the team's ability to "streamlining the government."
Ramaswamy also promised that he would reveal more about his plans in Ohio, seemingly suggesting that his exit from DOGE has something to do with his hometown.
Ramaswamy's sudden departure from the organisation has started rumours that it was due to his growing tension and feud with Elon Musk, and Musk had always harboured intentions to boot him from DOGE.
Rumours of his departure
People familiar with the matter are speculating that what Ramaswamy is trying to say is that he is preparing to announce his candidacy for Ohio governor, with many media reports speculating that this might be the next step in his political career.
If he were to be elected, he would succeed Governor Mike DeWine, whose second and final term is set to end in January 2027 due to term limits. The Ohio gubernatorial election is scheduled for November 2026.
According to an official from DOGE, Anna Kelly, Ramaswamy has chosen to step away from the organisation to run for elected office. This was the necessary procedure as his role as an active member of the executive won't have allowed him to run for governor.
But some have also speculated the growing tension between Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy could be the real reason that ultimately led Musk to boot Ramaswamy out of the organisation.
Fans have quoted a tweet that Ramaswamy made in late December regarding the H-1B law where Ramaswamy criticized the American culture for brainwashing tech companies to relentlessly hire foreign workers, ultimately leading Americans to "venerate mediocrity over excellence."
Fans are also speculating that this was a direct insult to Elon Musk, making this the last straw that ultimately made Musk boot him out of the organisation. "They wanted him out before the tweet-but kicked him to the curb when that came out" one source familiar with his departure told AP.
A person familiar with the arrangement also secretly revealed that Ramaswamy has also done no DOGE-related work since early December, which adds even more credit to the rumour of Ramaswamy being ostracised by the organisation.
On Monday morning, Ramaswamy posted a photo of himself with Musk shaking hands, seeming flauting the relationship between him and Musk.
But at that time he was already one foot outside the door. On the same day, a person close to Ramaswamy confirmed that Ramaswamy was leaving the organisation.
Ramaswamy is not the first pick of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine
Ohio Governor has announced Lt.Gov. Jon Husted as the next senator from Ohio, passing over entrepreneur and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
In a press conference at the statehouse in Columbus, Gov. DeWine said
"Jon Husted will be right at home in the United Sates Senate, and he'll be at home on day one."
