According to PANews, Zhao has been focused on areas such as mempool validation, transaction forwarding, and fee estimation. Her resignation does not impact Bitcoin's consensus rules, network security, or transaction processing.
The report highlights that resignations and key revocations are common practices in open-source projects. Bitcoin Core maintainers are a trusted group of developers responsible for code review, approving updates, and digitally signing official releases. Zhao has contributed to Bitcoin Core development for over six years, but her work did not involve altering the underlying protocol rules of Bitcoin. Zhao has not commented on the specific reasons for her departure.
