Tensions in the Middle East are rising, causing concern among Hong Kong residents in Qatar. According to RTHK, a Hong Kong businessman with years of experience in Qatar expressed fear as missiles frequently fly overhead. For safety, his family has packed essentials like medicine, clothing, and food to be ready for immediate evacuation if their building is hit by stray missiles.
Wong Ho-yin, Chairman of the Belt and Road Group, who has been doing business in Qatar for seven years, shared in an interview that this is the third major attack he has experienced in the region. Over the weekend, the local government issued alerts for two consecutive days, advising residents to stay indoors.
Despite Qatar's advanced air defense systems, intercepted missiles can still result in stray debris, which has led to casualties. Wong mentioned avoiding U.S. military bases and areas with high concentrations of Americans for safety reasons.
Having conducted business in the Middle East for a decade, Wong acknowledged that political instability inevitably affects the business environment. However, he believes that challenges also present opportunities and remains confident in his business ventures in the region. He emphasized the importance of staying vigilant and closely monitoring developments.
