Houthi forces, aligned with Iran, are reportedly preparing to attack oil tankers in the Red Sea to support Iran, according to The Times. The Houthis, part of Iran's 'Axis of Resistance,' have not yet engaged in the Middle Eastern conflict but have released statements and a promotional music video indicating potential military intervention. According to Jin10, the group appears to have decided to join the conflict after assessing their precarious situation in Yemen.
Ahmed Nagi, a senior analyst on Yemen for the International Crisis Group, stated, "They are waiting for a signal from Iran. Ultimately, the Houthis view the recent attacks by the U.S. and Israel as an escalation against Iran and the entire Axis of Resistance. If Iran's power is diminished, they could be the next target." With the Strait of Hormuz blocked, the Mandeb Strait in the Red Sea is now the sole route for oil transport in the region. Recent statistics indicate that nearly 30 oil tankers near Saudi Arabia's Yanbu port are within the Houthis' attack range.
