U.S. President Donald Trump, in an interview with the New York Post on Monday, identified Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf as one of the officials communicating with the U.S. to end the ongoing conflict. According to BlockBeats, when asked about the trustworthiness of Ghalibaf in cooperating with Washington, Trump stated, "We will see." He added that more details would be shared in about a week.
On Sunday, Trump told the Financial Times that Ghalibaf had authorized the passage of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, interpreting this as a sign of Ghalibaf's willingness to make concessions to reach a peace agreement. Ghalibaf, however, denied any negotiations with the U.S., though experts note he is a hardliner capable of reaching an agreement.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Ghalibaf is one of two Iranian officials temporarily removed from the "death list" by the U.S. and Israel.
