On April 5, Iranian military forces claimed to have destroyed a U.S. aircraft during a rescue mission for a downed pilot. According to BlockBeats, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters of Iran's armed forces announced that the Revolutionary Guard and Basij militia, with the support of law enforcement commandos, targeted and destroyed the enemy aircraft south of Isfahan.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also stated that multiple Iranian military departments collaborated to destroy the aircraft involved in the U.S. pilot rescue mission. However, this claim has not been confirmed by U.S. sources.
On the same day, The New York Times reported that two U.S. military transport planes encountered malfunctions during the rescue operation in Iran, leaving them stranded. The U.S. military subsequently dispatched three additional aircraft to continue the mission and destroyed the two malfunctioning transport planes.
