North Korean hackers have successfully stolen $293 million from Kelp DAO by exploiting an application built on LayerZero. According to NS3.AI, the attackers utilized LayerZero not only for the initial exploit but also to transfer a portion of the stolen funds across different blockchains. This marks the first recorded instance where the same application was used for both the theft and part of the laundering process. Onchain records indicate that at least $500,000 was moved through LayerZero. Meanwhile, Arbitrum’s Security Council managed to recover approximately $71 million that had been transferred to the blockchain by the North Korean operatives.
