Minimal Compensation for Libel Claim
In a recent turn of events, the U.K. Supreme Court declines to entertain Craig Wright's appeal against a previous ruling involving Peter McCormack. Last summer, a judicial panel awarded a symbolic 1 GBP to Wright in a libel lawsuit against Peter McCormack. The dispute centred around Wright's contentious assertion of being Satoshi Nakamoto, the enigmatic creator of Bitcoin.
"We were recently informed, though the decision dates back to last year, that the Supreme Court denied Craig Wright's request to appeal," comments Rupert Cowper-Coles, representing McCormack. "They are content with the outcome, especially since the nominal damages award of one pound remains unchallenged, despite Wright's repeated attempts."
This setback for Wright emerges amidst escalating tensions in another legal confrontation. He's embroiled in a protracted battle against various cryptocurrency entities and a group of Bitcoin developers. The contention revolves around the allegation of copyright infringement of Bitcoin's foundational documents and technology, purportedly owned by Wright.
On the same Thursday, this faction firmly dismissed a proposal to settle the longstanding dispute. The proposition was perceived as a trap, laden with loopholes, potentially paving the way for future litigations. The Cryptocurrency Open Patent Alliance (COPA), a non-profit entity, made their stance clear on social media, stating, "Hard pass on that 'settlement,'" emphasizing the deceptive nature of the offer.
