Venture Capitalists Cautious About Investing In AI Agents

This sentiment was shared during a panel discussion at the Consensus 2025 event in Hong Kong, featuring insights from Paul Veradittakit of Pantera Capital, Dragonfly partner GM, Akshat Vaidya from Maelstrom, and Martin Baumann of CMCC Global. The panelists discussed the potential of AI agents to revolutionize various aspects of the digital asset space, including high-frequency trading for retail investors and enhancing crypto security. They highlighted the transformative potential of AI agents in becoming a dominant form of user interaction. However, despite these promising prospects, the panelists acknowledged that they have not yet committed capital to AI agents, indicating that it might be premature for such investments. Veradittakit pointed out significant opportunities for integrating AI agents into the crypto sector, particularly in trading. He suggested that AI-powered trading could exponentially increase trading volumes due to the agents' ability to act swiftly and intelligently on behalf of users. These agents could facilitate seamless entry and exit from various products and execute decentralized finance (DeFi) trades, potentially reshaping the future of financial services. Dragonfly partner GM emphasized the mutual benefits between AI agents and crypto, noting that crypto could enhance the safety of AI agents. He proposed that AI agents could participate in hackathons with crypto prizes, incentivizing safety improvements. Despite outlining these potential interactions, the panelists admitted they have not yet invested in AI agents.
