In a word where freedom is demanded and the rights of human rights proceed beyond everything else, let me present to you the new utopian city of Queereum. Queereum literally provides you everything you need to survive in the cut throat world of today; a marketplace for its community to trade and sell stuff; a gathering space for people to meet and interact with one another; a “therapist” who you can share your deepest sorrows to and a “NGO” that people can turn to for financial assistance and social help. This city basically has it all. But is this community really a utopian city, or is everything just a fluke?
There are no founders, just community
The thing about this community is that you won't be able to find information about their founders nor the team on the web. The only bit of information we know about them is that they are based in Melbourne.
Could the anonymity of overseers be a deliberate move? Maybe they are making a statement that this community doesn't have oversees because the organisation believes in a community-driven project where everyone in the community is overseers of the city?
Show me your NFT before you can vote
For a person has to fist be an owner of the Queereum NFT before they are given the right to vote on the matters and decisions of the community. But even among the NFT holders, there are different tiers:
Common NFTs: Only given voting rights for minor updates and community events
Mid Tier NFTs: Voting right to larger platform developments and specific feature enhancements
High-tier NFTs: Voting rights on major ecosystem changes, strategic partnerships, and high level project directions
Full spectrum NFTs: Voting on changes of governance model and allocation of significant resources.
Untraceable on social media
To add to the secrecy of this community is their lack of social media persence. In today’s day and age, social media has become an important part of businesses and it one of the ways that businesses keep intact with their consumers. Social media accounts, such as Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, would also be the first few places you would search up when you are trying to find out more about an organisation.
Strangely enough, Queereum leaves almost none of its digital trace behind, with this organisation being found only on Twitter, Discord and Telegram. And it is no longer shocking to me that their social media also has a measly number of followers.
On twitter, this organisation goes by the name of Queereum community, and the account which was created on May this year has less than 300 followers.
This goes the same for their telegram account. Their telegram account, also with the persona Queereum community, has 144 members in its telegram chat, with almost 15% of them being deleted accounts. This makes this organisation even more suspicious and less credible.
Fostering inclusivity of minority groups
While there might be flaws within the app, we must also give it credit where credit is due. For example how the community fosters greater inclusively and provide social aid to its community. Here are some of its features:
BuddyAI: BuddyAI is the community’s proprietary AI model designed to provide companionship and personalised support and engagement regardless of identities and beliefs.
Queeriverse: Queeriverse if a VR world designed to provide a dating space for the LGBTQ+ community to interact and mingle with one another. Through this VR simulation they can also explore different VR spaces, and participate in a wide range of activities together.
Trading platform: Queereum platform is also market place where its community can make purchases while having their identities protected through blockchain technology such as zero-knowledges proofs.
Many changes to make before it could be perfected
While I am all for freedom and inclusivity, but I think that users should still steer away from this community due to a few reasons.
First, is the credibility of the website. Given how many followers this community has on their social media website, I cannot say for sure that this community is the safe space that it portray itself to be. There is also a lack of contacts to organisation if let’s say something goes south, adding further to my skepticism of this website.
But above all else, the thing I am the most skeptical about is its believe in self-governance. While I do not disagree that the community could be given the right to take part in certain decision making of the community, but the lack of regulators is something very concerning. Especially when the community provides an open dating space for its owners, without any regulators, this might allow people with ill-intents to utilise the platform for all the wrong reasons.
So, I think people should still steer clear of this community for the time being, and watch how it develops from afar!
