This increase is attributed to new accounting rules that permit companies to record the market value of their digital assets. Crypto executives suggest these rules open new avenues for companies to leverage their digital assets as collateral for working capital. Tesla's journey into digital assets began in January 2021 with a $1.5 billion Bitcoin acquisition, which drew mixed reactions from the investment community. Despite selling over 70% of its Bitcoin portfolio, Tesla still retains 9,720 BTC, valued at approximately $946 million, making it the sixth-largest corporate Bitcoin holder. Tesla CEO Elon Musk initially stated that the sale of Bitcoin was to demonstrate the asset's liquidity and strengthen the company's balance sheet during uncertain times. The US spot Bitcoin ETFs have accumulated nearly $116 billion in total assets, marking them as one of the most successful ETF launches in history, according to ARK Invest.
