Japan's Parliament to Elect New Prime Minister Amid Cabinet Resignation

Japan's House of Representatives and House of Councillors are set to hold a prime ministerial election on February 18, local time. According to Jin10, the Japanese Constitution mandates that a special session of the National Diet be convened within 30 days following the conclusion of the House of Representatives election to elect a new prime minister. On the day of this special session, the current Takamichi Cabinet is expected to resign collectively. The newly elected members of the House of Representatives, along with the existing members of the House of Councillors, will vote to select the new prime minister, who will then form a new cabinet.
