According to Odaily, EigenLayer has reported an isolated incident where a hacker intercepted an investor's email regarding the transfer of vested tokens to a custodial address. The hacker altered the address, resulting in the erroneous transfer of 1,673,645 EIGEN tokens to the hacker's address. The stolen tokens were subsequently sold on a decentralized exchange, and the proceeds in stablecoins were moved to a centralized exchange.
EigenLayer is currently collaborating with these platforms and law enforcement agencies. Some of the funds have already been frozen. The attack did not compromise the EigenLayer protocol itself, nor were there any vulnerabilities exposed in the protocol or token contract.
Previously, Lookonchain monitoring revealed that an address received 1.67 million EIGEN tokens from the EigenLayer team wallet and sold them entirely at $3.3 each, amounting to approximately $5.51 million.
