Canaan and Aurora AZ Energy Launch Off-Grid Bitcoin Mining Facility in Alberta

According to PANews, Canaan has partnered with Aurora AZ Energy to establish a 2.5MW off-grid Bitcoin mining facility in Calgary, Alberta. The facility utilizes 'stranded gas' from oil wells to generate electricity for mining operations, deploying 700 Avalon A15 Pro units valued at over $2 million. The project promises approximately 90% operational uptime with electricity costs below the industry average. Canaan reported that its self-operated computing power reached 9.3 EH/s as of September and received an order for over 50,000 A15 Pro units from the United States last month, totaling over 10 EH/s. The partners plan to replicate this model in other areas with stranded or vented gas to address centralized grid constraints and meet localized energy demands for AI and HPC applications.
