The UK government has announced plans to raise steel import tariffs and reduce import quotas in an effort to strengthen its domestic steel industry. According to Jin10, the Department for Business and Trade stated that starting July 1, steel import quotas will be reduced by 60% from current levels, and tariffs on steel imports exceeding these quotas will increase from 25% to 50%. Business and Trade Secretary Peter Kyle emphasized that the UK is ending decades of deindustrialization and is committed to reinforcing its position as a steel-producing nation.
