According to Odaily, on the 11th of this month, the nonpartisan watchdog group 'American Oversight' filed a lawsuit in the federal court of Washington, D.C., seeking access to records from the 'Government Efficiency Department.' The organization argues that despite assurances from the department's head, Elon Musk, about maintaining maximum transparency, the department's structure inherently keeps communications confidential. The watchdog's attorneys assert that the department should be subject to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Previously, a White House spokesperson stated that the department falls under the jurisdiction of the Presidential Records Act. The National Archives and Records Administration has indicated that documents governed by the Presidential Records Act cannot be released under FOIA for at least five years after the current administration ends.
