South Korea Prepares for Upcoming Local Elections Amid Political Focus

South Korea is gearing up for its new round of local elections, with the countdown reaching 100 days as of February 22. According to Jin10, political parties are intensifying their efforts to win voter support in what is seen as the first major test for President Lee Jae-myung's administration. The ruling Democratic Party's performance in the elections is a focal point of public interest. The local elections, held every four years, will select leaders for provinces, special cities, metropolitan cities, and municipal governments, as well as educational supervisors, education council members, and local council members across various regions. Scheduled for June 3, the elections will coincide with by-elections for National Assembly members. Under current regulations, public officials intending to run must resign by March 5, while National Assembly members must step down by May 4 if they wish to participate in the elections.
