According to Bitcoin News, 500 BTC linked to Irish drug trafficker Clifton Collins have been transferred on-chain after being believed to be lost for nearly 10 years. Between 2011 and 2012, Collins purchased 6,000 BTC with proceeds from cannabis sales, distributing them across 12 wallets. He also wrote the private key on a piece of paper and hid it in a fishing rod case in a rented property in Galway, Ireland. After Collins' arrest in 2017, the property was emptied, and his belongings were sent to a landfill. Authorities and Collins himself believed the private key was permanently lost, and the court ruled that the funds were proceeds of crime and should be confiscated. This on-chain transfer of 500 BTC suggests that at least some of these assets may not have been lost.
