At the Vanderbilt University Digital Asset Summit, CFTC Chairman Mike Selig stated that the CFTC will continue to defend its exclusive regulatory authority over prediction markets in court. Selig pointed out that regardless of whether it involves sports, politics, or other fields, any product legally offered on an exchange regulated by the CFTC falls under its jurisdiction, and states have no right to intervene by substituting gambling laws for derivatives laws. Selig emphasized that under the Dodd-Frank Act, the CFTC has the authority to determine whether a product violates the public interest and is currently clarifying its regulation of prediction markets through formal legislation. Furthermore, the CFTC and SEC released final interpretative guidance last month, establishing a classification system to ensure clear responsibilities when dealing with assets such as tokenized securities.
