Hydro-Quebec CEO Sophie Brochu will step down as CEO on April 11. In November 2022, Hydro-Quebec submitted a request to Quebec's electricity transmission and distribution regulator, the Regie de l'energie, to cut off electricity supply to cryptocurrency miners. Hydro-Quebec said the requirement is part of a 2023-2032 electricity supply plan, with electricity demand expected to grow by 14% over the next 10 years, while 270MW of power supplied for cryptocurrency mining will add to the pressure on power supply.
