Three Sigma, a Web3 engineering, research and investment company, announced that it is developing a new protocol, zkAuth, that allows Web2 traditional identity systems to be integrated into Web3 accounts.
zkAuth allows existing applications to integrate blockchain functionality without requiring users to create new accounts or manage private keys. zkAuth combines Web2 identity standards with Web3 technology, leveraging account abstraction (AA) to create a seamless user experience on zkSync.
zkAuth relies on the OpenID Connect (OIDC) standard to verify transactions, simplifying blockchain interactions through familiar login flows such as social media accounts.
The zkAuth protocol consists of two main components: a core smart contract system and a supporting developer SDK. Both components are nearing the final stages of development and will be open sourced when the testnet is released. Its testnet version will be integrated with Clave smart accounts to demonstrate the application of zkAuth in real scenarios. In the second phase, zkAuth will be generally applicable to all chains based on the ZK Stack, promoting interoperability within its ecosystem.
