Google said Wednesday it has released customizable "Gems" in its first major update to its flagship AI model, Gemini, in an effort to challenge OpenAI's dominance in the AI market.
Gemini will also directly integrate with the company's AI image generator Imagen 3. However, it still can't generate images of people, and a previous version produced problematic images and forced Google to take the tool offline.
Similar to the GPT feature of OpenAI's ChatGPT, Gems, which Google first announced at the Google I/O conference in May, lets users create modular custom AI assistants based on the Gemini model that can be used for a variety of projects from coding to career advice. Google said Gems are available for Gemini Advanced, Business, and Enterprise users. (Decrypt)
